Flames almost destroyed everything a family owned when a fire broke out at their home owned by Communicare on King George Street, Ruyterwacht on the afternoon of 9 May 2022.

Regrettably, the property was extensively damaged and cannot be occupied. The roof of the house caught alight and caved in. All doors and windows were burned.

Tenants occupying the house managed to escape the blaze without any injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. However, a suspect has been taken into custody for questioning by the Elsies River police.

The suspect is known to Communicare, but they have no further details on the investigation as Communicare awaits a report on the fire from the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue department as well as Elsies River police.

“While I am saddened by the news of the fire, it is a relief that none of our tenants were injured. We await the outcome of investigations from both the police and the fire department.

Communicare has not established the needs of the affected family.
