The Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading and Majorettes of the Western Cape (FDDCMWC) had the final provincial championship competition take place on Saturday 4 June at Curro Sandowns in Parklands.
With tough competition leading up until this day JG Meiring walked away as the 1st place winners in the Small Drill Category for the day making them the Western Cape Small Drill Champs of Champs for this year. This is their second year in a row taking 1st place in this auspicious category.
The team of 25 now prepares to partake in the National Championships which will take place in Bloemfontein from 11-14 July competing against all schools across SA for the title of National Champions.
The team is eager and hungry for a good competing week, however, they still need assistance in funding for their trip.
Currently, Nationals for each athlete costs R3 500. “We have had fundraisers throughout the year and are planning to have another two in the upcoming weeks,” said the coach of this team Chantal Lombard.
“As the coach, I feel extremely proud of the team results not only at Provincial Champs but throughout the year as well. Its been a long time coming since having to recover from a two-year break due to Covid-19, but the athletes have really stepped up and persevered through all challenges faced as a team during the 2022 season,” Lombard said.
The team is ecstatic and overwhelmed with a full 360 win, two years in a row to be deemed as Western Cape Champs.
“It is not an easy thing and it has most certainly not come easy with the tough teams we compete against in the Cape.”
The team is excited to push and get to Nationals and compete amongst the rest of the teams in South Africa to hopefully achieve top five status at National Champs.
