“Crowbar” burglars among several arrested by police in Kuils River

Kuils River police has made several arrests in the week from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 July. On Friday 15 July station commander Col Jayce Naidoo handed certificates of recognition for good work done to four officers involved in the arrest of the “crowbar” burglars.

Sgt Milaan Sarels, Const Jason-Ryan Wagenstroom, Const Allister Swanepoel, and Sgt Alex Hollenbach were all involved in apprehending four burglars shortly after a house breaking incident in Highbury on Thursday 7 July around 11:00.

The officers responded to information received about a suspicious vehicle that triggered an LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) camera.

The vehicle, a silver Hyundai, was spotted in Highbury Road and after a coordinated response from the officers forced to stop on the corner of Highbury and Ashley roads.

The TV stolen during a burglary was found on the back seat of the car covered by a blanket. The four men, between 25 and 35 years of age, were in possession of house breaking implements. The suspects have also been positively linked to a pending business robbery case.

The local police also had successful stop and search operations which led to 10 individuals being arrested for being in possession of a dangerous weapon, as well as 40 drug related arrests being made.

Two arrests were made for the possession of unlicensed firearms and one for illegal possession of ammunition.

Two arrests were made for illegal liquor dealing with close to 24 litres of liquor confiscated.

Other arrests made between 4 and 10 July included: assault GBH (3), common assault (2), common robbery (1), robbery with a firearm (1), possession of suspected stolen property (7), domestic violence (1), malicious damage to property (2), driving under influence of alcohol (5) and fraud (1).
