Have you ever wondered if doing your chores at home can generate an income?
Leah Angel (12), a Grade 7 learner from Eerste River, found out that something she regularly does at home can make her some pocket money.
Leah’s mother, Tammy Mouton explains: “My daughter has been asking me to get her some things. As a teen she needs quite a lot and as her mom I’m not always able to get it all at once. We sat and I asked her what she was good at. She said I always ask her to make coffee, tea, milo and hot chocolate. So this became a thing whereby when we would get visitors, Leah would jump right in and started charging us. As I run a local business desk, whereby I assist individuals in the area with resumes, letters and business adverts etc., she asked if I could make her an advert.”
According to Mouton they told Leah if she was serious they would invest and purchase her first needs until the business was able to sustain it itself.
“After advertising just to close friends and family, within an hour Leah received requests and later that afternoon a school approached us. The principal of Apex Primary School asked if she could serve 131 people during a winter programme that is held at the school. It was her biggest challenge, but she loved it,” says Mouton.
Leah thanked her mom for allowing her to follow her heart.
“I was able to see how a small gesture of kindness can impact a person’s life.”
She says it’s a lot of fun.
