No arrests have yet been made as Kraaifontein FCS (Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences) continues to investigate the circumstances around the abduction of a ten-year-old boy from outside his house in a gated complex in Langeberg Ridge a fortnight ago.
According to provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg, the incident occurred at about 16:30 on 1 August.
The boy, who was allegedly grabbed by a man inside Zander Estate behind Okavango Crossing, was found wandering dazed and confused in the parking lot near the taxis at CapeGate Shopping centre, according to managing director of Landry Securitas Gordon Landry.
“A member of a local neighbourhood watch spotted the boy who looked lost and scared, but as he approached the boy ran into Windsor Park in the direction of Marlborough Road,” says Landry.
Landry Securitas response officers reacted to a call from the neighbourhood watch member at about 18:00 and after a brief search found the boy at a liquor store in Marlborough Road.
“When the boy saw the uniformed officer he went to him and told him what had happened. The boy said he was grabbed by a man in the complex and pushed into a car, where another armed man was sitting. He told our officer that he went outside to dispose of a milk carton in the bin. It looked as if the boy had sustained a knock to the head, but he managed to direct the officer to his home where he was reunited with his shocked parents. Information suggests that he was thrown out of the car at the shopping centre about an hour after he was abducted,” says Landry.
According to Landry the said complex can be entered and exited when a resident phones you in or out.
“The only other way to get in is to tailgate another car into the complex. It is advisable for everyone who live in complexes to always wait for the gate to close behind them,” he says.
“I want to warn parents to be vigilant and aware of the fact that this is happening right under our noses,” he says.
