Apart from loadshedding some Bothasig residents have been without electricity for longer periods of time, apparently due to a faulty substation.
Claudette Marais, a resident of Batavia Street, Bothasig, said they have been without power since noon on 13 December.
“Eskom has given no feedback as to what the problem is. Power has been restored to most of the surrounding areas, but Batavia Street is still off. We no longer know who to contact. Our pleas are ignored,” Marais told TygerBurger last week.
Marais said they have also contacted the local Ward 5 Councillor, Miquette Temlett.
Temlett said she was made aware of the issue.
“Yes, I am aware of it. It is an Eskom substation fault. Eskom has not replied to any emails, answered any calls or replied to any of our requests for information and updates since Monday.
“It is Friday and as far as I know they are only busy working on it now. It is a huge disaster as people’s food in their freezers went off, babies could not be bathed and phones could not charge, not even mentioning cooking food.”
Swan dive
“Eskom and the national government is falling apart and through their swan dive they are taking the country with them. It is not only absolutely devastating but also highly destructive and crippling.
“I am beyond furious as are all the affected residents of Bothasig. And then the power came back on for one hour and loadshedding hit so another four and a half hours of no power.
“There are not even words to explain this,” said Temlett.
TygerBurger approached Eskom for comment, but is still waiting on a response.
