One man was arrested with almost a thousand pieces of ammunition in Bellville last Tuesday evening.
According to Derek Bock, CEO of the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID), one of the VRCID’s public safety officers was patrolling the area around De Lange Road when he heard an alarm at a nearby property go off.
“While proceeding towards the property, he saw the garage door opening and a male and female leaving the property,” Bock says.
“When they saw our VRCID officer, both suspects tried to flee on foot. The male was apprehended by our officer while his female accomplice escaped. Backup arrived in the form of further VRCID public safety officers. On searching the suspect and a bag that he had with him, it was found to contain a large amount of ammunition for both small and large firearms.”
In the meantime security officers from Bassett Security also arrived to provide backup.
“The owner of the property also arrived on the scene and confirmed that he wanted to open a case against the suspect. Bellville police counted and confirmed that 906 pieces of ammunition were stolen.”
