The ever-popular Bakgat Country Opskop show is returning to the Grand Arena, GrandWest, on Saturday 3 June at 18:00 after a hiatus of four years.
This will be the show’s 10th anniversary at Grand West and once again a jam-packed programme awaits lovers of country music.
The artists will be accompanied by a nine-piece orchestra, The Banned.
The artist line-up includes the trio West, Tarryn Lamb, Joanna Field, Tommy Dell, Ray Dylan, Elandré, Chris Else, Dodo, Chereém, as well as Karla Gouws and Gypsy, winners of the 2021-’22 Bakgat Country Star Search competition.
Elandré, Tarryn Lamb and Ray Dylan are all making a return to the Opskop stage. In 2016 Elandré’s home video cover of the Bruce Sprinsteen hit “Tougher than the Rest” not only made an impression on the local music industry but lead to his platinum selling debut album: Kleindorp-Dromer.
His work has been described as unexpected, fresh, and unique but it is his baritone vocals that packs the punch.
Tarryn Lamb, previously lead singer in the bands BlackByrd and LaVuvuzela, has estabished a successful solo career. Born and raised in Ocean View, she is a theatre school graduate and songwriter of several number one national hit singles. Lamb also acts as mentor in the talent search TV show, Die Kontrak.
Ray Dylan recorded his debut album in 2002, but his breakthrough came with Hokaai Stoppie Lorrie in 2006. He received the South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2010 for “Best Country Album of the Year” for his album Goeie Ou Country. Dylan’s latest album, Country Vibes, include hits such as “Forever Young” and “Sancta Maria”.
This year’s Bakgat Country Opskop will also pay tribute to legendary local country music artists who passed on the last four years, such as Lance James who performed at all the previous shows.
