Durbanville police are investigating a case of attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm and illegal possession of ammunition after an armed robbery suspect was killed during a shootout in Fisantekraal on Tuesday (16 May).
According to Durbanville police spokesperson Capt Marchell Rhode, a security vehicle escorted a bread delivery truck at 07:00, near Shiraz Abrahams Street, in the Fisantekraal informal settlement when two unknown men fired multiple shots at the security guards.
The security guards fired back, killing one of the suspects, while the other suspect fled the scene between the shacks.
Rhode says police recovered a firearm on the scene.
An inquest docket has also been opened for investigation in addition to the case of attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.
