The Thornton Ratepayers and Residents Association calls on volunteers to join them at the next clean-up.

The recent call by the Thornton Ratepayers and Residents Association (TRRA) for volunteers to get involved and keep Thornton clean had a fair response.

The second clean-up took place on Saturday 12 August.

Organisers hope more people will get involved as the events increase.

Councillor Riad Davids says he is elated about the association’s clean-up.

He saiys the clean-up took place on the main arterial roads, Sipres, Poplar, Denneboom as well as the parks.

June Hendricks, secretary of the TRRA, the clean-up was not what was expected.

“We would have preferred a greater turn out,” Hendricks says.

More in the future

This association will push forward and do clean-ups again.

“Hopefully more people will participate next time,” Hendricks says.

The clean-up was the first one to take place in months but organisers say they intend to host monthly ones from now on the second Saturday of every month.

The initiative is voluntary and the association will continue in the hope that more people will volunteer.

“The meeting point will always be at the sport complex, unless otherwise advised,” Hendricks says.
