Eight people injured when a car crashed into Cape Gate Mediclinic Hospital

The aftermath of the accident at Capegate Mediclinic yesterday.

Eight people were injured when a car crashed through the windows of the restaurant at the entrance to the Cape Gate Mediclinic yesterday, around noon.

The injured, including the driver and passenger of the car, two staff members and some bystanders, “received on-site emergency assistance and were further assessed at the hospital’s emergency centre,” Nokuzola Plaatjie, spokesperson or Mediclinic Southern Africa, said. “Mediclinic will provide trauma counselling to support those individuals impacted by the accident.”

A TikTok video circulating claims the driver had suffered a heart attack, which caused the accident, although the hospital had not confirmed this at the time of going to press.

“The hospital is not in a position to speculate on the cause of the crash or any details about the driver,” Plaatjie said.
