The countdown has begun. The second Africa International Youth Kungfu Championship will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 2 and 3 March at Fairbairn College Multi-Purpose Hall in Goodwood.
According to Muhammad Junaid Chafeker, a legend of Kungfu and world champion better known as MJ Li, the South African Youth Kungfu team is the defending champion after beating the Botswana Youth Kungfu team in the Inaugural Tournament in March last year.
“This time the SA Youth Kungfu team is hard at work as they prepare to take on the Youth Kungfu Teams from Gauteng, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Rwanda,” says MJ Li.
He said preparation is going well for the championship and that they anticipate around 185 athletes that will compete over the two days in Taolu Forms.
“We have a full team of 40 athletes that will be representing South Africa,” says MJ Li.
He states that they are excited to host nine teams for the two days. However, they are nervous as well.
Sinawo Yola, the captain of the SA Youth Kungfu team said being the captain has its responsibilities but together as a team, they are excited to defend their title in the coming championship.
