A new leadership committee has been elected to serve on the Richwood Neighbourhood Watch (RNW). The committee was elected at the neighbourhood watch’s last general meeting which was held on 30 January.

The new committee members are Glenn Marais (chair), Greg Lambert (vice-chair), Charmain Dye (secretary), Caron Daniell (treasurer), Craig Clacher (patrol and operations coordinator), Charl Phillipson (events) and Sean White (radio communications).

Marais says as an organisation they are glad that their crime statistics had shown a huge improvement. At the meeting the police also mentioned that their organisation is the best performing neighbourhood watch in the precinct, as per the latest crime statistics indicators.

“This is mainly due to our dedicated patrollers and a very vigilant community who have really been a huge support base to RNW. Not forgetting our armed response companies (Precinct Response, ADT, Swart Security and District Watch) who immediately assist when called upon. Without their support it would be a major battle, so we must mention their contribution,” says Marais.

He says having a police station in the precinct that is so dedicated and always so quick to assist, also helps.

“With the availability of some CCTV systems to certain members, the monitoring of the area has helped a lot. Hopefully, we will be installing more in the crime hot spots which will cover the streets for suspicious movement during late night and early morning hours.”

Marais says other than that, the fight continues and that their patrollers are always ready to assist.

He also gave recognition to the first aiders who help. “These women and men are real heroes. Saving lives, assisting the ill or injured and still patrolling.

“As chair, I cannot be prouder of team RNW,” says Marais.
