The non-profit organisation Woman2Woman (W2W) will soon launch its programme for girls, called #Saveourgirls.
According to Florence Campbell, spokesperson for the organisation, the programme aims to create a safe space for about 70 girls. “This programme will be run in Bishop Lavis,” she said.
“Team W2W wants to create a platform for these future leaders to express themselves in a safe environment. They come from a community plagued by gangsterism, drugs and gender-based violence. We want them to know and understand that their voices have power, and where you come from does not define where you are going. You destined to leave your mark.”
This programme will be in partnership with various stakeholders such as the Department of Justice, Department of Health, the Bishop Lavis police, Famsa and the Bishop Lavis Library. “We firmly believe in ‘stronger together’,” said Campbell.
“There is so many negativity our there, but here is a story of hope. Together can hope alive. We realise that we cannot do this alone and that is why we have so many stakeholders. To reach our goals the whole community need to be involved.”
