Table View police are urging the community once again to take precautions when at home after another home invasion was reported last week.
Capt Adriana Chandler, Table View police spokesperson, confirmed a house robbery took place at a complex in North Road in Table View during the evening of 3 April.
The suspect gained access to the property through an open bathroom window, while the victim was asleep.
“The suspect was armed with a firearm and threatened the victim to hand over belongings. The suspect fled through the patio door with laptops, a cellphone and headphones after hearing someone at the door,” Chandler says.
TygerBurger reported last week (“Woman found murdered in Parklands home”, 3 April) of a 53-year-old woman found dead in her home in Langley Crescent, Parklands, in what appears to have been a robbery. Hher house was ransacked and car stolen.
“The house was in a state of disarray with numerous household items and the deceased’s vehicle stolen,” Chandler said. “It appeared as if blunt force trauma to the body was the cause of death.”
He said police responded to a request for a welfare check on the deceased during the afternoon of Thursday 28 March. An armed response officer greeted the police at the scene and informed them that on entering the premises he discovered the lifeless body of a woman in a room.
Police have since arrested four suspects in connection with the murder.
Tips to stay safe
Chandler is urging the community to take note of the following tips to stay safe:
- Make sure that doors are locked, and all windows closed, even when at home.
- Activate your alarm system, if you have one. If you don’t have an alarm, please contact an armed response company in your neighbourhood to give you an affordable quotation.
- Switch on outer perimeter lights when going to sleep or invest in motion detection lights.
- Try to make your home as inaccessible to criminals as possible.
- Join your local neighbourhood watch.
