The non-profit Bakuphe will again host its annual Donate a Blanket Concert this coming Sunday.
The organisation’s founder, Christoffel Maneville, started the Blanket Drive in 2019, to collect blankets for those who cannot afford to buy their own.
“It became an annual programme and we believe that ‘each one reaches one’,” he said. “If we can keep someone warm during the cold winter we will achieve our goal.”
Since the start in 2019 the organisation distributed blankets all around Cape Town.
“We have donated to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, The Haven Woodstock and especially those who live on the streets,” said Maneville.
“We may not give them shelter, but we can give them a blanket of love to keep them warm.
“Most of our support comes from the public and we are forever grateful for their generous support.”
He said Bakuphe’s target this year is to gather 2 000 blankets.
“This we would love to do. To enter the concert you just have to bring clean blankets, old or new, or non-perishable food. The blankets will be distributed to the people who need it the most.”
The artists who will perform are The Ronald Bailey Project, Trevor Benson, Theo Mitchell and Ivanita Oelf.
The concert will take place at the Shammah Community Church at 20 Organ Street in Belhar, starting at 17:00.
