The dedicated Glenwood Neighbourhood Watch joined forces with Goodwood police at the notorious Voortrekker and Halt Road intersection on Saturday 14 September, a known hotspot for smash-and-grab incidents and robberies.
“This hotspot requires extra caution, so stay alert,” says Tracy Alberts, deputy chair of the Glenwood Neighbourhood Watch.
According to Alberts, as the group showed their visible presence, motorists expressed their appreciation with friendly toots and shout-outs, acknowledging the groups efforts to keep the community safe.

The deputy chair states that the intersection in question is a high-traffic area, characterised by a significant volume of taxis and pedestrian activity.
“The location offers numerous escape routes, including access to train lines and readily available taxi services, making it an attractive spot for criminal activity due to the ease of escape and anonymity”, says Alberts.
- Keep doors locked and windows up at all times.
- Don’t leave valuables like laptops, phones, handbags or money in plain sight.
- Be aware of your surroundings, as smash-and-grabbers often collaborate with taxi drivers for quick getaways or escape along the railway lines.
“By staying informed and taking precautions, we can reduce the risk of crime and make our community a safer place. Kudos to our Neighbourhood Watch team for their proactive efforts!
“It’s always a great feeling to help the police with these types of operations. Like I said, visibility is key to reducing crime.

“The passing motorists expressed their appreciation as they were aware of the need to make a difference at that intersection,” Alberts added.
