The Bonteheuwel Walking Ladies are mourning the death of one of their long-standing and committed members.

Soraya Salie from the Walking Ladies says Auntie Faldeelah Fredericks passed away at the age of 88.

“On 22 April we had the honour of celebrating her birthday with her. She was a mother, a wife, Moulood leader and a teacher. She was the full package and solid as a rock. She was part of the group for seventeen years,”

says Salie.

The Walking Ladies is a community group that is involved in uplifting, educating and protecting the community of Bonteheuwel.

According to Salie, Auntie Faldeelah was totally at peace when they recently visited her. “She was awaiting Allah’s time for her calling. This confirms the beautiful person she was inside and out. She will surely be missed, but we will treasure all our beautiful memories over the years. We make dua for comfort, sabr and contentment in the hearts of her children, families, neighbours and friends,” says Salie.

Auntie Faldeelah was laid to rest on Friday in accordance with the Moslem rites.

“The mosque was jam packed as a sign that many people knew and love her and wanted to show their last respects.
