The Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) has hit the ground running since their November election and are ready to tackle key issues for the next five years.

With Michael Jacobs returning to office as chair after a decade hiaitus, he says his nomination came as a surprise.

“I was not party to any caucuses, which is an acceptable democratic process, but accepted the challenge as I thought I still have something to give my community. I firmly believe that safety is everyone’s responsibility and as such, we as a CPF want to be inclusive as far as possible to be able to bring stability and peace to our community,” says Jacobs.

“We further want to forge positive relationships with station management in order to ensure that our community get’s the desired quality policing services which they are entitled to. We also want to work with elected councillors, educators, faith communities and other NGO’s to ensure that services are delivered to our communities.”

Jacobs says the ongoing gang violence and sporadic shooting is a major concern. Domestic and gender-based violence, street robberies and house robberies are still unacceptably high, he adds.

“We call on our communities, not only to join our safety structures but to inform the police and law enforcement agencies within the City timeously so as to get a quicker response,” he says. “Our plea to the community is let us take hands and work together to create a safer Lentegeur precinct.”
