An elderly woman was overpowered by two armed men in her Ferndale home in Brackenfell yesterday afternoon in a terrifying home robbery that left her severely traumatised.

The incident occurred at approximately 14:30 when the suspects forced entry into the house on the corner of Old Paarl Road and Ferndale Street by kicking off the burglar bars.

Once inside, they pressed her to the ground and ransacked the property for jewellery, cell phones, laptops, and other valuables.

The raid was cut short when a neighbouring resident heard the commotion and rushed to the woman’s aid. The suspects opened fire at the neighbour before fleeing the scene, making their escape down Old Paarl Road in the direction of Bellville in a minibus taxi.

The elderly woman is said to be severely traumatised and is receiving victim-support counselling this morning. Brackenfell police have confirmed the incident and an investigation is underway.

Residents of Ferndale and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately, as the possibility of further home invasions in the area cannot be ruled out.
