The Durbanville police alerted residents to a new modus operandi of house robberies in which people advertising items for sale are targeted by criminals.
On Wednesday 13 May a 38-year-old Zimbabwean man in Greenville opened his door for a potential client to buy a laptop.
The victim runs a laptop repair service from his house in Nasturtium Street and advertises his services on social media.
However, when he opened the door, a second person entered and took out a firearm.
The “potential client” also pointed a firearm at him.
Large amount of cash stolen
The two suspects tied up the complainant with cable ties and took eight laptops, a TV, a cellphone and cash to the value of R65 000.
They fled in a silver Polo with black mag wheels. The registration number is unknown.
According to Lt-Col Christo Esterhuizen, commander of the Durbanville Detective Service, the investigation is still pending.
Back door forced open
In a second house robbery in Fisantekraal in the early hours of Friday, 15 May, two unknown males forced open the back door of the house to gain entry.
The men went to the bedroom where the victim was sleeping. They threatened her with a knife and demanded money and her cellphone.
They took the victim’s cellphone and handbag. Thereafter, they took her to the bathroom and raped her.
They fled the scene on foot. According to Esterhuizen, the case has been transferred to the Kraaifontein Family and Child Protection Unit. The investigation is still pending, he said.
