Klipheuwel Road (R302) is currently being turned into a dual carriageway by the City of Cape Town between the intersections with Brackenfell Boulevard and Olifantsrivier Avenue — a distance of about 800 metres.
This is the first phase of the ultimate plan to upgrade the route to a dual carriageway from the proposed R300 interchange to Spes Bona Road — totalling 4 km.

The road upgrade includes several entrances, as well as a large entrance or left slipway to Groot Phesantekraal farm.
Funded by City
“All existing lawful accesses affected by the road infrastructure upgrade are assessed in accordance with the City’s approved access management plan for this route, while also considering environmental constraints,” said Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayco member for urban mobility.
The upgrade of Klipheuwel Road is being funded by the City.
Budget availability
Quintas said the cost of the project cannot be disclosed “due to extortion risks”.
This phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of July or early August this year, if all goes according to plan. Abnormally high rainfall may, however, may affect the target completion date, he said.

“The implementation of the following phases of the dualling of Klipheuwel Road will be based on budget availability and capital project priorities,” he said.
