South African gamers are set for another high-energy competitive season as the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience 2026 returns, bringing e-sports action to malls across the country.
Now in its fourth year, the series presented by Hyprop in partnership with MTN will travel to eight shopping centres from April to August, culminating in the National Finals at Canal Walk. A total prize pool of R350 000 is up for grabs.

Two games, one national title race
The competition centres on two major titles: EA FC 26™, the popular football simulation game, and Beat Saber, a fast-paced VR rhythm challenge.
Each stop on the tour features online qualifiers followed by three-day in-centre tournaments, giving both experienced players and newcomers a chance to compete for a place in the national showdown.
“SHIFT has grown into something that genuinely reflects the diversity of South Africa’s gaming community,” said Christie Stanbridge, Brand and Campaigns Marketing Manager at Hyprop. “It meets players where they already are and gives them a real chance to compete, connect and win.”
Nationwide mall tour in full swing
The series has already opened at Rosebank Mall and will travel through Somerset Mall, Woodlands, The Glen, Table Bay Mall, Clearwater, Capegate, and finally Canal Walk for the national finals.
Each venue hosts both online qualifiers and live in-centre competitions, managed by ACGL, a leading South African e-sports organiser.
Alongside the main competitions, each event includes Fighting Cup brackets featuring Brawlhalla, Tekken 8, and Street Fighter 6, as well as free play zones, PC gaming stations, and interactive challenges.
These activations ensure that the SHIFT experience caters not only to competitors, but also to casual gamers and spectators.
Big titles, big stakes
The EA FC 26™ tournament sees players progress through heats into mall finals, with winners advancing to the national stage where they compete for R50 000. Defending champion Hamza Moosa returns automatically to defend his title.
Meanwhile, Beat Saber competitors battle for the highest score across mall events for a chance to qualify for a separate national final, also featuring a R50 000 prize pool.
“MTN is committed to connecting South Africans to the things they love,” said Muyiwa Ladipo, Chief Consumer Officer at MTN South Africa. “We’re excited to see who rises to the top this year.”
