Man escapes unharmed in Strandfontein drive-by shooting

A 32-year-old man escaped injury during a drive-by shooting in Strandfontein on Wednesday evening, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Dageraad and Dennegeur roads at 18:46 when an unknown gunman opened fire on the man’s vehicle.

According to police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana, the man was driving towards the intersection when the gunman got out of his car and fired multiple shots at the man’s vehicle as he drove away.

Witness heard gunshots

A resident of Dennegeur Road, who did not want to be named, said her nephew had heard the shooting while she was preparing for church.

He warned her as she was getting ready that he’d heard about five gunshots going off in succession nearby, she said.

When she returned from church later, she found the intersection crawling with police and unmarked vehicles.

The resident said she had not heard the shots herself.

Police investigation underway

Strandfontein police have opened an attempted murder case following the shooting. No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

The Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) confirmed the drive-by shooting and urged residents to remain alert.
