MyCiTi stations near completion in Dunoon and Usasaza

After years of disruption, the City of Cape Town is making steady progress in restoring key MyCiTi bus stations in Dunoon and Usasaza, a move set to reconnect communities with safe, reliable public transport.

Construction at both stations is well underway, with Dunoon now approximately 80% complete and Usasaza 75%. If all goes according to plan, both stations are expected to be finished by the end of April, pending final Eskom power connections and approvals.

The stations were vandalised in 2018, leaving commuters without access to vital transport infrastructure. Their reconstruction marks a significant step towards restoring mobility and improving daily travel for residents in surrounding communities.

Once completed, the stations will provide safe, efficient and affordable transport options, helping commuters better access jobs, education and other opportunities across the city.

The City’s Mayco member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said the project reflected a strong commitment to rebuilding essential infrastructure.

In addition to repairs, the upgraded stations will include universal access features such as tactile paving, ensuring they are accessible to all commuters, including those with visual impairments.

These improvements highlight the City’s focus not only on restoring infrastructure, but also on creating a more inclusive and user-friendly public transport system.

Progress extends to Joe Slovo

Work is also advancing at Freedom Station in Joe Slovo, previously known as Phoenix Station. That project is expected to be completed by July, also subject to the installation of Eskom power supply.

Together, these developments form part of a broader effort to revitalise the MyCiTi network and rebuild confidence in public transport services.

The rebuilding of these stations goes beyond infrastructure; it is about restoring dignity and ensuring that residents once again have access to dependable transport.

With completion dates drawing closer the City continues to prioritise projects that strengthen connectivity and keep Cape Town moving forward.
