En route to locate and recover a stolen vehicle, a driver from a vehicle tracking company driving at high speed caused a collision that sent two cars crashing through residential boundary walls in Darwin Street on Friday night.
The accident occurred at approximately 21:20 when the tracking company employee, driving a white double-cab bakkie, failed to slow down at a traffic circle and collided with another vehicle already in the intersection.
Video footage shows the tracker’s vehicle travelling at excessive speed over the traffic circle before striking the other car, sending it into a spin. Seconds later, both vehicles smashed through the boundary walls of two houses in the street.
According to reports on the Avion Villas Neighbourhood Watch group, the tracking company driver told responders at the scene that he was responding to a stolen vehicle in Philippi. A resident living two houses away from the crash site described hearing the impact, saying he heard a “double crash” before discovering the extent of the collision.
“It was so loud it sounded like something was coming through my own wall,” the resident told TygerBurger. “I just grabbed my dog and ran.”
According to Kraaifontein police, the accident was not reported, and no case was registered. TygerBurger approached the car tracking company for comment, but received no response by time of publishing. Nobody was injured in the accident.
