Police confiscated a gun from a man in Lentegeur

Two men have been killed and another wounded in a Mitchells Plain shooting police believed to be gang-related.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night, 18 March, about 23:00 in Tierkloof Street, Tafelsig. Police found three men with gunshot wounds after responding to reports of a shooting.

An 18-year-old was declared dead at the scene by medical staff. A 26- and 27-year-old were taken to hospital, where the latter succumbed to his wounds.

Mitchells Plain police have opened two murder dockets and one for attempted murder. No arrests had yet been made and circumstances were still being investigated.

Separate firearm arrest

In a separate incident a 21-year-old man was arrested, on 16 March, during police patrols in the New Lentegeur area.

Crime Intelligence and Serious Violent Crime Unit officers were following-up on information when they spotted a man running. They caught him with a firearm and six live rounds.

The suspect was detained at Lentegeur Police Station and appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 March.
