The City of Cape Town has begun constructing pedestrian footways along multiple road segments in Bellville, Uitzicht, Eversdal, and Peerless Park West to improve safety and accessibility for residents.

Construction is taking place on Riesling Street in Bellville, Vatican Street in Uitzicht, Sondal Road and Kendal Road in Eversdal, and Raan Street in Peerless Park West, Kraaifontein. Work hours are 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday, with completion expected by Wednesday, 29 April 2026, subject to weather conditions and unforeseen delays.

“The construction of new pedestrian footways involves preparing the road sites, strengthening the ground, installing new edges and kerbs, improving drainage, and finally laying the footpaths,” said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayco member for urban mobility.

“These upgrades will make it safer and easier for residents to walk in their neighbourhoods and encourage more people to choose active ways of getting around. We thank residents for their patience while this important work is under way as we continue working to keep Cape Town moving.”

The specific road segments include: a section of Riesling Street between Kanonberg Boulevard and Pontac Street in Oude Westhof, Bellville; Vatican Street (westbound) between Athens Street and Okavango Road in Uitzicht; Sondal Road and Kendal Road in Eversdal; Raan Street between Frans Conradie Drive and Horak Street in Peerless Park West, Kraaifontein.

The City urges pedestrians and motorists to remain alert during construction. Drivers should slow down, follow road signs, watch for uneven surfaces, and be mindful of construction workers and pedestrians walking past construction sites in these areas.
