Residents and visitors flocked to Big Bay on Saturday 7 March for the lively Big Bay Market Day, enjoying a day filled with shopping, food and family-friendly activities while supporting a good cause.

The event, which ran from 09:00 to 18:00, brought together local vendors offering everything from handmade goods and crafts to delicious food and treats. Families, friends and beachgoers spent the day browsing stalls, socialising and soaking up the festive atmosphere along the beachfront.

Most importantly, the market helped raise funds to support the initiatives of the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, which plays an important role in keeping local beaches safe.

Community support

Shoppers said the event created a welcoming space for residents to connect while supporting local businesses and community organisations.

“I love markets like this because you get to support local vendors and enjoy a relaxed day out,” said Lauren Petersen, who attended the market with friends. “There was a great variety of stalls and the atmosphere was really friendly.”

For Andre Jacobs, who visited with his family, the event offered something for everyone. “The kids enjoyed the activities and we grabbed some great food while walking around the stalls. It’s always nice when events like this also support a good cause,” he said.

Another visitor, Chantal Williams, said the market was a perfect weekend outing. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together like this. The stalls were interesting and it’s great knowing the event helps support the surf lifesaving club.”

Supporting beach safety

Organisers said the market not only created a vibrant community event but also helped generate support for the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club’s programmes and operations.

The club plays a crucial role in ensuring beach safety, particularly during busy summer months when thousands of locals and tourists visit the popular coastline.

With strong community support and a lively turnout, the Big Bay Market Day once again proved to be a popular gathering for residents looking to enjoy a day by the sea while contributing to a worthwhile cause.
