Lentegeur police have urged residents in the Colorado sector to be cautious following a recent spike in robbery and armed robbery cases in the area.

Lentegeur Police Station spokesperson Const Navon van Houten said there have been several reports of robberies in recent weeks, with criminals particularly targeting individuals walking alone to bus stops or taxi ranks, especially during early morning hours when commuters are travelling to work.

Safety measures advised

Police have issued specific safety guidelines for residents to help reduce their risk of becoming victims:

  • Avoid walking alone during dark morning hours;
  • Keep belongings secure and out of sight;
  • Do not wear headphones, use iPods, or carry mobile phones visibly whilst walking;
  • Ensure all doors and windows are properly locked when leaving home;
  • Report any suspicious activities to authorities immediately.

Van Houten said criminals view lone pedestrians as easy targets, particularly those who appear distracted or are carrying visible valuables.
