A learner at Bosmansdam High School in Adam Tas Avenue, Bothasig will represent South Africa at an international football tournament in the United States of America (USA) this year.

The prestigious 2026 Dallas Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament is set to take place in Dallas, Texas from 29 March to 5 April. According to the tournament’s website, over 100 000 people attend the event, with 35 countries being represented. More than 10 000 participants take part in the tournament, while more than 350 referees oversee the matches.

Aaron Forbes (18), the Grade 12 learner, will leave Cape Town on 22 March and return on 10 April.

The school says they are incredibly proud of Aaron for being selected to represent Ikapa United Football Club U/19 as goalie at the tournament. The event is being described as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to compete on an international stage. Here he will face world class teams, gain exposure to scouts and experience invaluable cultural exchange, Marelize Erasmus, a schoolteacher and head of social media at Bosmansdam High School, says.

“However, international travel comes with significant costs, and we are asking our Bosmansdam community to help make this dream come true,” she says.

To help him achieve this milestone, funds are currently being raised via a Back-a-Buddy page. Approximately R60 000 is required to cover travel, accommodation, tournament fees, and essential expenses. Every contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference, the school says.

So far R2 300 have been raised on Back-a-Buddy of the R60 000 goal.

People can also purchase Fort Simon Merlot 2022 bottles of wine available at R160 per bottle, or R960 per case of six. The proceeds will go to Aaron’s tour. People can also make a direct bank transfer.
