The first of a series of author mornings at the Durbanville Library will take place on Tuesday 10 March.
Dr Chantal Stewart, medical doctor, author and poet, will talk about her novel, The Veil of Maya. She may also do a reading from her Let’s be Legends poetry collection.
Poetry and short stories
Stewart has worked full-time in a government hospital for most of her life. In her spare time she facilitates creative-writing workshops and writes poetry. Her works have appeared in a number of publications — Women Flashing (2006), Writing the Self (2008), Twist (2006), Stanzas (2021).
The Veil of Maya, which is her first novel, won the NIHSS Best Fiction (Novel category) 2023 and the UCT Book Award (2024).
She has just published Let’s Be Legends, her debut poetry collection. She lives in Cape Town with her husband and two dogs.
Monthly mornings
The monthly author mornings will be presented by Caroline Steenekamp and Lelani Visser of the Only Realty Property Group, a property-development company.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to hear inspiring stories, discover new books, meet new people and enjoy a relaxed cup of tea and cake afterwards,” Steenekamp said.
A speaker from Only Realty, Zandré Groenewald, will also address those attending on downsizing in property.
The free event will be presented from 10:00 to 12:00. Tea and cake will be served after the talk.
