The body of a homeless person was found in Panorama on Thursday last week.
The Plattekloof, Welgelegen, Panorama and Kleinbosch (PWP) Neighbourhood Watch, who assisted the police in identifying the dead man, appealed to the public for assistance in locating his next of kin. Mike Buttner, PWP chair, said after he was found near the hospital on Thursday morning Parow police contacted the group to identify the deceased.
He said he was identified as Lucas, a well-known member of the local street community, commonly recognised as a Rastafarian and often seen on a blue Raleigh bicycle.
After assisting with the identification neighbourhood-watch members left the scene while police continued their official investigation and procedures.
Buttner said the police were handling the matter and were responsible for locating the next of kin.
“We are appealing to the broader community to help us locate Lucas’s family so they may be informed and accorded the dignity of closure,” he said.
The PWP Neighbourhood Watch expressed its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and hoped their appeal would have its expected outcome.
It appealed to anyone with the information to contact the Parow Police Station on 021 929 7000.
