The 46th Gordon Monk Softball Tournament recently took place in Gauteng recently. The Cape Town Softball Association (CTSA) sent 2 teams to represent Cape Town. This tournament is considered the second largest softball tournament in South Africa, after the National Provincial Championships.
Development
According to Kayleigh Langman it was about growth, exposure, and development — and that is exactly what took place. “For many of the players, this was their first time flying on a plane, their first time travelling for a tournament, and their first time playing in a truly competitive softball environment. They were exposed to a calibre of softball beyond what they experience at home — the speed, intensity, discipline, and mental toughness that comes with it. They showed up. They learnt. They adapted. They competed.
“Wins and losses aside, the development that took place over these few days cannot be measured on a scoreboard. Confidence was built, lessons were learnt, bonds were formed, and experiences were shared that will shape these athletes going forward. This kind of exposure is invaluable for the growth of the sport. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who backed us and supported the journey in any way. A special thanks to the coaches and management who gave their time, energy, patience, and commitment to make this experience possible. What you invested will carry far beyond this tournament,” says Langman.
Stronger
She says they returned home home tired but fulfilled “We are stronger as individuals, stronger as teams, and motivated for what lies ahead. This was not the end goal, but an important step forward. We are so proud of every single one of the athletes,” she says.
