Roadworks in Blackheath
Residents are warned of Roadworks in Blackheath.

Residents making use of the intersection at Electron and Range Road in Blackheath have been advised by the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate about a temporary closure.

The closure is required to accommodate the upgrade of the existing stormwater-pipe system to a new culvert as well as the reconstruction of the affected roadway and sidewalks. The temporary closure will be in effect from Saturday 7 February to Sunday 15 March. Roadworks will take place from 07:00 to 17:30, Mondays to Saturdays, weather permitting.

Investment

“To keep Cape Town moving the City continues to invest in essential road upgrades and well-planned alternative routes,” said Mayco member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas.

Traffic in both directions on Electron Road will be affected during the construction period; however, traffic provisions will be maintained on Range Road at all times to ensure through-movement between Stellenbosch Arterial and Wimbledon Road. Alternative access to Electron Road will be available via Range Road and Wimbledon Road. The City thanks residents and road users for their patience and cooperation while this important work is underway.

Detour signage

Road closure and detour signage will be in place to direct motorists to Electron Road via the alternative access routes and construction areas will be clearly demarcated on each day to help manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users. While some congestion is expected during working hours, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and make use of alternative routes where possible.
