The community of Bonteheuwel have been shocked by the brutal murder of a woman in Assegaai Street earlier today. The woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband just after 16:00 this afternoon.
According to the local ward councillor, Angus McKenzie, the community is deeply disturbed and angered by the violent murder.
Police are looking for suspect
“A woman has tragically lost her life after being brutally stabbed. She was rushed to hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries. The suspect is her husband, who is currently on the run. At this stage, I cannot release the names of either the victim or the perpetrator. What I can assure the community is this, every single law enforcement and police officer in the Bonteheuwel area is actively on the lookout for him.
“There will be no hiding. He will be found, he will be arrested, and he will be charged. Let me be absolutely clear gender-based violence has no place in Bonteheuwel. It will never be normalised, excused, or tolerated in our community. Not today. Not ever. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, loved ones, and children affected by this horrific act. We stand with you, and we will pursue justice relentlessly. If anyone has information that can assist in locating the suspect, please contact the police immediately or report it to your nearest officer. Your information could save lives. This is a developing situation. I will keep the community informed as more verified information becomes available. Enough is enough,” said McKenzie.
Police responds
Seargent Samantha Adonis, spokesperson for the Bishop Lavis police, says she can confirm the murder, but not the rumours about the husband being sought.
TygerBurger has contacted the police for details on the murder and will add the information as soon as it is sent.
