A local award-winning filmmaker offering a course in acting during March

Local award-winning filmmaker and practical effects makeup artist, Nic Matthee, will conduct an acting class at Roosendaal Secondary School beginning in March 2026.

This class will provide an introduction to acting, explore the fundamental aspects of embodying a character, and discuss the construction of a scene, which includes the management of props, special effects, and other theatrical activities.

“The performing arts will continue to be a component of a team-building initiative that serves as a transformative life-changing opportunity for young, creative, and talented individuals, integrating them into a transition that yields positive outcomes and impacts the community positively,” says Matthee.

Award-winning

Matthee is a renowned filmmaker residing in the Cape Flats, known for establishing the youth development projects in the performing arts for film, theatre and TV. He has produced films such as Aapie, the Uncle Billy short film series, and the psychological thriller Stress, which have garnered awards both nationally and internationally in South Africa, as well as in countries like Germany, Turkey, and the USA, for contributions to community development in film and theatre. His most recent drama class culminated in the production of the film “The Meeting”, which was showcased in Spain at the Zinebe film festival for both amateur and professional filmmakers worldwide.

Storyteller

“Every filmmaker is a storyteller, and every actor embodies a vision. The magic occurs in the interplay between the filmmaker and the actor, the acting class aims to facilitate this connection.” Says Matthee

Matthee employs relatable storytelling combined with practical and special effects, as well as action scenes, to enrich the narrative, which also conveys themes of willpower, triumph, and addresses issues such as social challenges and their adverse effects on the community.

The acting class is open to students and community members interested inexplor ing their acting potential. Participants can take advantage of this opportunity free of charge, as it is part of the Red Moon Community Development Project at Roosendaal Secondary School.

Matthee is additionally preparing to commence filming this year between August and September on two film projects. He will participate in the production and special effects, including project management, for a post-apocalyptic short film written and directed by Phoenix Andrews.
