Approximately 300 participants of all ages came together for an evening of movement, connection and community celebration.
The Bellville Senior Centre and Chrismar Villas recently hosted their 24th annual Fun Walk, bringing so many together for an evening that celebrated health, community, and togetherness. The 5 km fun walk/run took place on Tuesday evening, 2 December, in the Bellville area and participants ranged from 3 to 83 years old.
“What stood out most was the spirit of togetherness, as people of different ages and physical abilities walked and ran side by side, celebrating movement, community, and connection,” said Zoe Borchards, PR and events coordinator.
The event was designed as a celebration rather than a competitive race, with the 5 km route tailored for walkers and runners of different physical abilities. Local running clubs also joined the event, adding energy to the occasion.

The fun walk served as more than just a community gathering; it supported the Bellville Senior Centre’s mission of caring for older people by providing resources such as meals, home-based care and social activities.
“Events such as these reflect the heart of Bellville Senior Centre and Chrismar Villas,” Elfreda Louw, Manager of Bellville Senior Centre, explained, “bringing people together, supporting seniors, and creating moments that leave everyone a little healthier, happier, and more connected.”
Bellville Senior Centre and Chrismar Villas form part of Badisa’s extensive network of community-care programmes. These long-standing services have expanded since the 1980s to encompass a variety of senior-care programmes.
Badisa is a faith-based, non-profit organisation supporting social development across multiple provinces in South Africa with over one million beneficiaries annually.
The success of the 24th Fun Walk demonstrates the continued commitment of these organisations to fostering community spirit while supporting the health and well-being of seniors in the Bellville area.
