A suspect was arrested with a gun that was recently used in an attack on the police.

Bishop Lavis police have confiscated a firearm that they believe was recently used in an attack on police officers.

According to police spokesperson Sgt Samantha Adonis on 20 August officers from Bishop Lavis were patrolling a gang-shooting hotspot in Valhalla Park when gangsters decided to shoot at their unmarked vehicle they were driving at the time.

“Officers explained the trauma they experienced,” she said, “seeing the firearm as clearly they did because it was so close, but as they prepared to retaliate the suspects ran among the shacks. Yesterday officers received information on suspects with firearms at an address in 8th Avenue, Valhalla Park. They followed-up on it and found a 32-year-old man with a firearm on the premises.”

On seeing the firearm the officers realised it was the same one they had seen last Wednesday morning when they came under attack. “The man was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and was detained at Bishop Lavis,” Adonis said. “This was a great arrest as we cannot allow gangsters to target the police, who are trying to protect us. We will not silenced by those wanting to break the law.”
