Counterfeit Lego games worth R1,5 million were confiscated earlier this week during a search operation by the police at a premises in Darwin Park industrial area outside Durbanville.
According to Capt Frederick van Wyk, spokesperson for the provincial police, members of Western Cape Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, as well as members of Essential Infrastructure Task Team and Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, executed a search warrant at the premises in Evolution Crescent on Wednesday 30 July.
Representatives from Oversheds Sutherland, the brand protector of Lego games, and brand managers were also present during the operation.
“Counterfeit Lego games to the value of R1,5m were confiscated. No arrests have been made. A case docket was opened at Durbanville police for further investigation,” Van Wyk says.
“The Western Cape police remain dedicated in the fight against counterfeit and illicit goods by ensuring that counterfeit and illicit items are removed from society,” he says.
