Two teenagers were robbed of their mobile phones at knifepoint in Protea Road, Protea Heights, on Thursday.

The incident took place at around 17:30 in the section of road between Boulevard Square and Buitekant Street, according to one of the victim’s grandparents, who asked not to be named.

Speaking to TygerBurger on Monday morning, she said her 15-year-old grandson and his friend, a 14-year-old girl, were walking home when the attacker approached them.

“He came from behind, briefly spoke to a woman ahead of them, then turned back and approached them. The man held a knife to my grandson’s stomach and told him not to attract attention or he would be killed. He then demanded their mobile phones,” she said.

According to another resident who posted on a community channel, three similar muggings occurred in the same area on the same day, reportedly carried out by two men working together. However, TygerBurger could not verify this information.

The teenage boy described the attacker as short, wearing a denim shirt, sandals, and a beanie, and noted that he had bad teeth.

According to his grandmother, the incident was reported to the police by the girl’s parents

Brackenfell Community Policing Forum CPF urges the community to be vigilant at all times.

“Be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not display personal belongings when walking on the street,” says CPF chair Norman Landry.
