TSITSIKAMMA – Visitors to the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park will face a temporary closure of the iconic Suspension Bridge at Storms River Mouth from 20 to 31 July as South African National Parks (SANParks) completes the final phase of refurbishment work.

The closure is expected to pave the way for the bridge’s reopening on 1 August following the accelerated completion of the upgrade project.

According to SANParks spokesperson JP Louw, the suspension bridge and access to all three suspension bridges will be closed during this period to allow the contractor to complete the remaining work.

“This temporary full closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors and construction personnel while the final refurbishment activities are carried out,” said Louw.

He said SANParks was pleased to report that the project had progressed well, with the overall completion date brought forward.

Louw said the refurbishment was now expected to be completed by 31 July, with full public access to all three suspension bridges resuming from 1 August.

“We appreciate the patience, understanding and cooperation shown by visitors, tour operators and local stakeholders throughout the refurbishment period,” said Louw.

“These improvements will enhance the safety, longevity and visitor experience of one of the Garden Route National Park’s most iconic attractions.”

Louw said SANParks apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and looked forward to welcoming visitors back to enjoy the fully refurbished suspension bridge from 1 August.
