Pandemonium erupted on a film set in Century City recently when a snake decided to make an unannounced appearance.

Redmoon Productions was shooting a scene when the snake appeared. According to Nadia Gouws, an actress playing one of the main characters, the incident was one of the highlights of the shoot.

“We were unexpectedly interrupted by the snake just after finishing filming. It was captured on film, and I understand it is being included in the final version. What made the situation even more amusing was when the director tried to pick the snake. Suddenly, a bird swooped down in an attempt to snatch it, but the snake managed to escape. It is a moment that I will always remember”

From Silversands, the professional dancer has acted in several films. After some time away from the spotlight she is back with a bang. Gouws was contacted by filmmaker Nic Matthee, who is also the community performing-arts project manager of the Red Moon Project, to participate in the film Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.

She was cast in it as the lead character, Lizel Landrieu, alongside drama students and talented youth from various communities. “I had previously collaborated with Nic on a film where all the action sequences were filmed in a warehouse-like studio in Killarney Gardens, when he was just starting out. However, he has improved significantly, and his filmmaking approach is quite different. I had to mentally prepare myself to perform in action sequences, including shootouts, gunfights, and close combat scenes.

“The screenplay offers a fresh perspective, addressing traumatic events and relatable themes such as gender-based violence and trauma. It also explores emotional and spiritual intervention, providing a new approach to storytelling.

“Sometimes being a performer on stage, whether in drama or dance, is one thing, but truly embodying the drama and the dance itself fosters a mindset filled with limitless motivation to venture into the unknown, take risks, and a leap of faith. It allowed one to experience, experiment, execute and bring to life what has been visually conceived.”

She said she was a strong supporter of local productions as they created opportunities for young talent to showcase their abilities in theatre and film environments. “For drama students this serves as a chance to build confidence in a constructive manner and to appreciate the benefits of the performing arts as well as their growth as actresses.”

Production started in February, with filming beginning on 7 March in locations such as Century City and Milnerton. Some scenes are planned to be shot at the Ysterplaat Airforce Base and Delft, including drama students from Roosendaal Secondary School.

Traumatic event

The film narrates the story of a young woman who, after experiencing a violent and traumatic event, must focus on regaining her strength through a hero’s journey to track down six ex-convicts who abduct young girls and videotape their criminal activities, ultimately seeking to bring them to justice. The film is written and directed by Nic Matthee.

“Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” is set to be released on 27 August 2026 on the Red Moon Performing Arts YouTube Channel and Tubi TV.
