SAPS Kariega detectives have opened a case of reckless or negligent driving following an accident between a Toyota Quantum and a stationary vehicle that occurred on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 16:20, a collision was reported in Caledon Street, Kariega.

“Available information indicates that the driver of a Toyota Quantum minibus allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle, which subsequently collided with a stationary vehicle,” she said.

Janse Van Rensburg added that at this stage, no criminal case has been opened by the driver of the Quantum. “The circumstances surrounding why the driver exited the moving vehicle remain unclear and form part of the ongoing investigation,” she concluded.
