HERMANUS – The R43 was closed for almost five hours today due to a head-on collision near Benguela Cove. The road opened and the accident scene cleared at approximately 15:15.
According to law enforcement, there were only two cars involved and they could not elaborate further on the collision. “What we can confirm is that two people have passed away and that emergency vehicles are still on the scene,” a source said.
The accident happened near Benguela Cove and motorists are advised to approach the area with extreme caution or seek an alternative route if possible.
For a safe Easter weekend, SANRAL advises motorists to plan routes to avoid peak traffic, service their vehicles and check tires. Key safety measures include avoiding driving under the influence and taking breaks every two hours.
“It is important to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy, including checking tires, brakes, lights and wipers. Also take breaks every two to three hours or every 200 km to combat fatigue,” they said in a press release.
