Police recover R65,000 stolen goods in Nxuba businessman bust


NXUBA – A 38-year-old Nxuba businessman is set to appear before the Nxuba Magistrate’s Court on 28 April on charges of possession of stolen property.

According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the suspect was arrested on 24 April in an intelligence-driven multi-disciplinary operation comprised of Nxuba Crime Intelligence (CI), Nxuba Dog Unit (K9), Nxuba Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), Nxuba Public Order Police (POP), Middelburg K9 and Graaff-Reinet K9.

She said that it is alleged that on 24 April at about 09:30, the joint team acted on information received about the suspect being in possession of suspected stolen property at his residential property as well as at a storage facility that the suspect uses for his business equipment.

Mgolodela said that a search warrant was applied for and granted.

During the search, the following items were recovered: a truck rim with a tyre, a Ryobi bench grinder, four pairs of truck spotlights, a petrol compressor, a truck tyre, two 20 litres of engine oil, eight 5 litres of engine oil, six 5 litres of heavy-duty diesel engine oil, 20 litres of antifreeze/coolant and two 20 litres of hydraulic oil.

“All the items collected have a total cash value of R65,000,” said Mgolodela.

District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph condemned the conduct of accumulating wealth through foul means while poor people out there are struggling to make ends meet.
