PEDDIE – Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) gathered in Bira Location, Peddie, on Saturday 4 July to pay their final respects to Sergeant Phumelele Tyuwa, who was shot and killed at his home in Dimbaza in June.

According to police spokesperson Captain Majola Nkohli, it is alleged that two armed men stormed Tyuwa’s home in eMadramini A/A, Dimbaza around 19:30 on Sunday 21 June, and opened fire.

Nkohli said Tyuwa sustained gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene, while the suspects remain at large.

Nkohli said acting district commissioner Brigadier Zinikele Freddie reassured mourners that the police would exhaust all available resources to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

“There is a team comprising seasoned investigators from the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit that is working on this murder case,” said Freddie.

Nkohli said the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating the murder.

He called on anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Mlumbi, on 071 481 3009.
