Wittebome High School in Wynberg celebrates 70 years with a 70s-themed dance on Saturday 10 October.
The dance will take place in the hall of Plumstead High School. Young and old can dust off their bell bottoms, sequins and platform shoes for a 70s retro smart dress code.
First high school in Wynberg
Wittebome High School opened in 1956, in the building that previously housed John Graham Primary School. When the primary school moved to Milford Road, Plumstead, in 1957 and the old building in York Road became home to Wittebome High School. Since then, the school has served the Wynberg community and many other communities across the Cape Peninsula.
A year of celebrations
The Wittebome Alumni Association which launched on 14 February this year, has kicked off a year of anniversary events. These include a Teacher Appreciation Day which honoured staff past and present. Former and current chairpersons of the school and School Governing Bodies attended. While consumer studies learners hosted the tables.
Later, on Saturday 29 August, the Class of 1993 held a back-to-school reunion in the Wynberg Sports Club Hall, which formed part of the anniversary programme.
