Masiphumelele football stars earn Western Cape selection

A pair of talented young football stars, Enzokuhle Myeki and Milani Mkhonto, are looking forward to sweeping the competition with their skills at the upcoming 2026 Winter National School Sport Championships taking place in East London from Friday 10 July to Tuesday 14 July.

The dynamic duo have been selected to represent the Western Cape u-15 soccer team at the upcoming tournament next month.

Development

The event will feature nearly 3 000 young athletes, coaches, and officials from across South Africa competing in sporting codes including soccer, rugby, volleyball and hockey.

The learners, who are both in Grade 8, attend Masiphumelele High School.

They are also supported by MasiSports (MS), which is a South African non-profit organisation based in Masiphumelele.

Founded in 2017, it aims to transform the local youth, their families and the community by providing access to organised sports, arts, culture and life-skills education.

Enzokuhle plays as a creative midfielder and hopes to pursue a professional football career.

“When I am on the soccer pitch I feel free. My dream is to be a professional player one day.”

The Winter Games are providing a platform for high-level competition, personal growth and the opportunity to showcase their skills against the best players from across the country.

Masiphumelele High School coach, Inga Ngcupe, have helped develop Enzokuhle Myeki and Milani Mkhonto into the talented footballers they are today.

Being chosen to wear the Western Cape colours is a significant honour and one that Enzokuhle and Milani have earned through their determination, discipline and outstanding performances on the field.

Milani, who plays as a goalkeeper, said: “I hope to reach my potential and be a positive role-model for young people like me in the future. I want to give back to my community one day.”

People’s Post reached out to their coachInga Ngcupe, andMasiphumelele High School for comment, but they could not respond before going to print.
