New walking paths and signage have been installed along the M3 greenbelt in Newlands, following a joint effort between the Newlands Community Improvement District (NCID), the City of Cape Town and private donors.
The project included repairs to the walking paths and the installation of new signage to improve navigation for people using the greenbelt.
Repair work
The NCID first tested rebar supports before the City’s recreation and roads infrastructure team carried out the physical repairs.
“Newlands Community Improvement District started things off by testing rebar supports. The City recreation and roads infrastructure team completed the physical path repairs,” the NCID said.
New signage
The project was also supported by donations from Property Vine Cape Town, led by Lindsay Dwyer. This enabled the redesign and installation of new signage along the paths.
The NCID said the new signage was designed to help people navigate the area while walking or running.
“Generous donations from Property Vine Cape Town by Lindsay Dwyer allowed us to beautifully redesign and install brand-new signage so you can easily navigate your walk or run,” it said.
The signage was installed with assistance from Signarama Claremont.

Partnerships in public spaces
The upgrade highlights the role of partnerships between community organisations, the municipality and local businesses in improving shared public spaces.
The City of Cape Town has been approached for comment on the extent of the repairs, its role in the project, the cost of the work and plans for maintaining the paths.
